Meet the PGR team

PGR was the vision of one man: Peter Grayson.
He does however have a magnificent team of experienced horsemen and office staff behind the scenes who keep the cogs turning smoothly, allowing Peter to solely do what he knows best – train racehorses.

Peter’s knowledge of the form is backed up by his skill and hands on horsemanship. He has been showjumping at a competitive level since childhood. When moving into the racing industry, he did so with the theory that a horse is still a horse, whichever discipline it takes part in. The vital recipe still applies – horses are all individuals and all need treating differently. Peter rides all the horses on the gallops in their fast pieces of work and has a real hands on approach to training. Peter has completed courses on Back Manipulation and due to working closely with a vet for many years has gained a valuable, in depth understanding of equine veterinary science and treatment.

Sarah's role is split between assisting Peter in the stable work, liaising with owners and managing the day to day running of the stables. Sarah has qualifications in breedstock management and has worked with horses in England and the U.S. since leaving school. She originally worked with Peter and the showjumping team, breaking in the yearlings and bringing them on for Peter to compete. Sarah deals with the office and costings of the company nowadays, allowing Peter to channel his concentration fully into the training.

Heather Woodcock, as Racing Secretary, has been a part of the team at PGR since the outset. She manages all the entries, declarations, logistics and owner registrations. Heather works closely with Peter, Weatherby's and the owners. Heather has attended courses held by Weatherby's and is well equipped to offer advice and knowledge on any queries.

Val Lewis is responsible for all the financial aspects of the business. She manages the accounts, pays the bills and collects the payments. Val has been with us for over a year and is a valuable member of the team.

PGR also employs eight work riders/stable staff and a further four stable staff who are all of an exceptional standard.
